First Party Lvl 50 Party T_T

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

That is like the stuff of legends to me.

Party lvl1 50.

I've had people telling me about it, about how it's the best for good exp in a party.

Yet, I've never been in one; the closest was like party lvl 36.

I joined this party when it was at party lvl 40; UncoverS had asked me along.

It took us a few hours to get it to party lvl 50. Then we went celebrating by taking screenshots.

See that dude in the far right being blocked by the party menu?

Yeah, I placed the menu there on purpose.

He wanted us to take the picture with him in it. How annoying.

People come and go in parties. But for this session, getting party lvl from 40 to 50 with me were ek9, KwangRE, and UncoverS. Well, at least they were around the longest.

I am starting to love partying a lot. Especially with a cleric -- uber cleric buffs rock!

And now, here's two kitties from clan KittyKatKlub.

That's Kupfel on the left; Belize on the right. Kupfel's a Champ, and Belize's a Scout. Belize's hawk is cooler than him. He thinks so too.

And here's me with them (my medical mask's a gift from Belize). <3 Belize. Medical masks are cool.

Belize just helped me complete the temple quest -- scored all 18 stones. Without his help, I couldn't have done it. ^_^

He'a really nice, and he makes me feel young when he enquires after me in an endearing manner (well, at least I think it's endearing).

Note to self: Post pictures of me & DeadSanity.

1 Party lvl starts out at one, and the maximum is party lvl 50. Party lvl increases as the party fights on. Exp is divided among party members, and one gets higher exp with higher party lvls. Also, every time the party lvl goes up, all members get full health and mana.

First Mammoth Kill XD

That was one of the best moments I had in a party in R.O.S.E. (There's a "Party" ability so one can team up with others.)

We, a bunch of lvl 7Xs1, managed to do away with two mammoths on Luna, the second planet.

It all started as more of a dare: "Wanna try the mammoth?"

"What?! You're kidding!"

"O_o".

"You're mad."

The mammoth's name was purple2 to all of us.

Minutes later, somehow, all of us got infected with the desire to take on a mammoth.

And we did.

We had 2 muses: UncoverS and MomoNini, and 3 soldiers: Beauf69, TEMOON and I.

Halfway through the first fight, we added another muse, Sanfoora.

Sanfoora didn't talk much, and even died once. But Sanfoora didn't complain, he returned to fight on. Two other persons died: Beauf69, but he was our main tanker3, and uh, I don't recall who's the third one who died. Beauf69 left after the first kill, I think. (Not too sure, but he wasn't around for the second kill.)

Anyway, it was crazy.

A mammoth could've killed me in 3-4 hits. Imagine the amount of healing the muses had to do, on top of making sure that we, the soldiers, were buffed4. They attacked the mammoth too, oh yeah, they did.

Imagine too, our excitement, as we realised that the mammoth's life was indeed going down, despite the many times that that big fat ass "MISS" flashed above the mammoth to indicate our blows had missed.

"It's working!"

"It is?!

"Omg!!!" (Oh my god)

It took us about 10 minutes(?!) to kill it without any further casualties. Truly remarkable. Remarkable as in no further casualties, not the amount of time.

We were pretty much stunned and exhilarated at our first mammoth kill.

Well, I went crazy running around going, "wooooohooo, we killed it!", and someone said, "Omg, the exp5 is so much!!!"

I only sat down when one of the muses built a bonefire6. We all gathered around it, and shared in the afterglow of a extremely difficult (if not, damn near impossible) kill.

We then went on killing other monsters, monsters which were much more normal for us, when MomoNini said that he had to leave soon, and he quipped, "Wanna kill another mammoth before I go?" (To think that this was the same person who didn't like the idea in the first place. ^_^)

So we did.

Brazened with the fact that we had a mammoth kill under our belts, we seeked out the nearest mammoth.

"That one, to our left."

"I have it targeted."

"Start now?"

A dealer wandered near us then, and I asked, "cayenne, wanna join us to kill a mammoth?"

But then, we had no time to add him to the party as someone from our party let off a shot from afar as we, the remaining two soldiers, charged.

XxCayennexX of clan7 UAE started attacking too. Maybe he misunderstood; I really meant join as in join our party.

Well, we asked him to stop a lot of times; we asked politely too. I remember someone said "pls stop". I myself said, "don't ks8, cayenne", after I finally realised that it was him. See, half the time, the mammoth's back filled up two-thirds of my screen. I could barely see myself sometimes, as it is.

Our party leader, the only one who could add or kick party members, told him we'd add him after this mammoth.

But he didn't stop. He wouldn't.

See the golden coins in the picture above? That's a dealer skill -- Zuly Pink. None of us in the party was a dealer. And yeah, TEMOON was being rude, but that was in party chat, so only we could see it.

In this picture, the damn lil KSer9 XxCayennexX is using a Launcher with cannon balls -- nice, safe, ranged attack.

You know, I suddenly noticed that Sanfoora is also from clan UAE (see the first picture). That makes me wonder...

But then again, I know all too well how a clan's general policy might not be reflected by some of its members. A clan can't be fully responsible for all its members' actions. The most a clan can do to a particular renegade member is to warn him or to kick him from the clan.

Oh, but I digress.

I had such a sense of comradeship taking on the two mammoths with this party. Though they might forget me (long name, bad memory, nothing worth remembering), I certainly won't forget them.

And if there's any moment/experience that defines a MMORPG for me, this was definitely one of it.

1 lvl 7X = lvl 70+. So lvl 4X = lvl 40+, and so on.

2 Monster names appear in different colours to indicate difficulty lvl. From easy -> hard: grey, blue, green, yellow, orange, reddish, pink, purple.

3 tanker = person who is taking most of the hits, usually someone who can afford to.

4 buffed = had spells cast on us that had a temporary positive effect. E.g., Haste Attack, Increased Defence, etc. It looks like this next to your basic character info: , with each lil icon representing a different kind of buff. On the actual character itself, you will see something like this:

That pinkish circle's a buff, and so's that lil cloud of sandy smoke.

5 exp = experience points. One earns experience points from successful monster kills. For your character to get to the next lvl, you need exp.

6 Not my misspelling; Gravity's. It looks just like a bonfire, but is spelt Bonefire in-game.

7 In R.O.S.E, you can form a clan if you're lvl 30 and above, and have a million zulies (zuly = R.O.S.E currency). Obvious signs of being in a clan would be a logo and the clan name above one's head.

8 ks = kill-steal

9 KSer = kill-stealer

Messing Around

My friend, Tenki, and I were exchanging clothes and equipment to see how it'd look like on each other. Here's one shot of him with my Junior Look and Senior Cap.

And here's one of me with his Devil Wings and Flower Trunk (on loan from another friend.

Stall of the Day #01

Stall of the Day for ridiculous pricings:

Does IcyAya really expect anyone to buy from her?

If she's simply AFK (away from keyboard), why bother putting up so many items?

For the uninitiated, there is an ability to open market to sell to/buy items from other players in R.O.S.E.

A player's stall looks like this:

You can see the player's name in white above the stall, and on top of the player's name is the stall sign, which you can change from the default "XX's personal market" to whatever you please. Players tend to use stall signs to advertise their wares/wants. And also, you get stall signs like:

The "DaDaDaDance!" one's of a stall selling dance scrolls (yes, using those scrolls makes your character dance in para para fashion).

As for why some players call their wares junk/shit, well, teenage lingo, maybe.

There are plenty of player stalls around, usually in the town area. This also causes major lag in the respective area.

The upside of that many player stalls is that you get variety and more choices. You get to compare prices, and see who's selling at a lower price, and who's buying for more.

It's also good for ogling rare items, or for just checking out what kind of items you can use for your class/lvl.

Beggars #01

I have been quite fascinated with in-game beggars ever since this thread.

What are beggars? Beggars are players who go around asking for free items or money.

There seems to be no lack of them; they are just less common than scammers (shall go into scammers another day).

Beggars will give you the lamest excuses for why they need money and/or items. Ditto for why they can't get it themselves. I find it rather interesting to see what tales they will spin just to get something for free.

Here's one (old) example of a beggar in action:

I was in the Forest of Wisdom doing Grunter Kings, and he just started in on me like that.

And yes, I edited the conversation with him, because it was also filled with bits of conversation from other players, and things like this:

I think beggars are just plain lazy.

Sometimes, just sometimes, they might genuinely need help.

But most of the time, they're just lazy bastards hoping to gain something for nothing.

How To Register for JRose

So, you want to register for the Japanese version of R.O.S.E?

Can't get past all those lil weird Japanese characters?

Fret not, here's a step-to-step guide. (OK, maybe not step-to-step.)

First, go to http://www.roseon.jp/download/cliient.asp

Step 1:

So, click on the orange one already!

Step 2:

Step 3:

Fill in everything, then click on the blue button to check your ID.

You must do this, or you can't register successfully.

As for what to put for the last 3 fields, it's been said that entering numbers will do the trick.

I entered "294 3243 376", well, something like that. It worked for me.

Step 4:

This is what you get when you can use the ID you entered.

Click the confirm button.

Step 5:

After all that, and you wanna reset (i.e., clear) the registration page?

I think not.

Step 6:

Well, that's it. Now go download the game if you haven't yet. ^_^

I made this guide because of this JRose thread @ 7hearts Forum. And oh, special thanks to Jibraun for translation for the registration page. More information can be found at that thread. Help can be seeked there too.

UPDATE 27 July 2005: I've finally updated the guide, so click here for it.

The Mean Entry on Names

I've always wondered about the players' choice of in-game names. (Some names would be changed to protect the innocent, i.e., me.**)

Some are straightforward enough, e.g. TheOne, lordjustin, Fahlyndra (Nice name, this one. Nice person too.).

Then we get names like RyanOng and JennyLee. What the... ?

I'm sorry, but I really don't understand why anyone would use their real name for a game character. No, I am not just any Ryan; I am RyanOng. That's Mr Ong to you, get it? (I made that up.)

I asked a few of the players with names like these: Is that your real name?

I got the answer yes.

So with one of them, I poked my nose further in, and asked why.

She replied that she just didn't bother to think that much for a name (words to that effect).

I followed up: So, if you had a second character, would it be named XXXXXXLee2?

She didn't reply anymore. I mentioned this incident to someone before, and he commented that I showed sarcasm with that XXXXXX2 question. Pffft, I was genuinely curious; I did not mean to be sarcastic. It came out the wrong way, I guess.

Anyway, I mentioned yesterday that the each of the 4 classes (Soldier, Muse, Hawker, and Dealer) branches out into 2 advanced classes.

Well, I guess people like FutureSoldier and SupportMuse forgot about that, or maybe they intend to quit once they reach that stage? (Now this is intended sarcasm.)

It seems ironic to me to be called FutureSoldier, when at lvl 10, you can become a soldier, and when at lvl 70, you can become a Knight or Champ. The same goes for anyone else who has the class as part of his/her name.

However, the kind of names that really irk me are names like CuteErica, PrincessLolly, or SexyBabe.

Are they really cute, or sexy, or princessy in real life? Or do they wish that they were? Or have they been told often that they are? Or are they hoping to gain more friends and benefits when people know them to be girls?

It boggles my mind; it really does. Boggles my mind, and fills me with disgust sometimes.

One last special mention when it comes to names: FallenMage. Self-explanatory. Are you snickering yet?

**Note: Not all names are changed..

Very Brief Introduction to R.O.S.E Online

Well, since I am getting that familiar screen,

I thought I'd just blog some more.

First of all, if you somehow stumbled upon this blog, and have only the vague idea that R.O.S.E is some sort of game, you are right.

R.O.S.E is a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game). R.O.S.E stands for Rush On Seven Episodes. (One episode for each planet, and there is seven.)

I am playing the international version, so I get to interact with players from all over the world. I enjoy this aspect of the game a lot.

I have had FuWestholm from Sweden tell me about snuff (Yes, I know, I thought he meant that snuff too.). I have heard what fast food is available in Holland (*sweatdrop*), and I know about that gorgeous lake in Slovenia thanks to DeadSanity.

But I digress.

R.O.S.E is a Korean game. In Korea and Japan, it is now pay-to-play. And oh, the international version is actually in its beta stage, so it is free for now.

Basically, in R.O.S.E, you can take on the role of one of the 4 classes: Muse, soldier, hawker, and dealer. Each of the 4 classes branch out into two more advanced classes.
  • Muse: Cleric / Magician
  • Soldier: Knight / Champ
  • Hawker: Scout / Raider
  • Dealer: Artisan / Bourgeois
You start out at lvl (level) 1 as a Visitor. At lvl 10, you then get to pick one of the 4 classes. And at lvl 70, you can then choose to be another class, but only one (E.g., If you're a muse, you can choose to be a Cleric or a Magician. You can't be both, na uh.). In the game, they call it "jobs", hence you have "first job", and "second job".

As I mentioned earlier, there are 7 planets. Well, actually only two. Why two? Because... Only two planets are officially released as of now. Yes, that means even Korea and Japan.

This is what the official site of R.O.S.E has to say about the 7 planets:

There are various tales, fantasies and legends around the seven planets, but many of them contain some grain of truth.

Our universe, or as it is called in the old tales, the 'Sea of Souls,' was a vast ocean of darkness until the goddess Arua created the seven planets. Each one of them was special, and not one planet was like the other. However, all seven planets were created with Arua's love and they shone with the brilliance of seven stars, filling the vast ocean of darkness with wondrous light and life.

However, Hebarn, god of malice, grew envious of Arua for her creative power. He forcefully took the seventh planet and pompously named it after himself. Hebarn has been a constant threat to the peace of the seven planets, as well as to the goddess Arua.

In order to protect the planets from Hebarn's looming menace, Arua created the Visitors, and has been sending them to the seven planets.

Go on, download the game, you know you want to.

What the hell?

While trying to create this blog, I tried roseon, 7hearts, and irose for the URL.

All were taken.

The last one doesn't even have an entry yet.

And the first one had just one entry, dated September 9, 2004, and it was an entry that consisted of just one line: i have just created my blog. Bah!

Anyway, I decided to start a blog on this game because I figured it wasn't fair to rant on the 7hearts forum (or should that be, it wasn't enough); besides, not everyone wants to read such rants.

Another reason on the why of this blog: Why not? I figured I would have plenty to say. There would be no lack of pictures too (screenshots, anyone?).

One final reason why I'm doing this blog (instead of playing now) is because my trusty virus scanner decided to do a scan now.
